Chain E-mail invokes general strike

WHETHER it started as a joke or not is unclear but an e-mail calling for a general strike on July 15 is being received and then forwarded by people to their contacts list converting it into one of the most distributed messages of the last few weeks.

The mail makes reference to the rises in mortgage rates as well as electricity and fuel prices and goes on to say 'let this be the first general strike convoked on the internet ... for everything they are doing to us ... this date should pass into history, we will stop the country'

The mail is completely anonymous and appears to have no connection to any trade union or political movement and makes no call for demonstrations or meetings of any kind. Should it be successful it would be a landmark event in the power internet has over our lives.
