Mojacar Ayuntamiento to start ‘Couples’ Register

The ayuntamiento of Mojacar approved in a recent meeting the setting up of a register of 'parejas de hecho', something which will allow unmarried couples to register the fact that they live together, and to specify any particular legal conditions of their relationship such as shared assets or inheritance issues.

Parejas de hecho also have similar rights to married couples regarding things such as adoption of children or resolution of issues arising in the case of separation. The concept is somewhat similar to that of common law husband and wife in Britain.

The first council in the area to introduce this kind of register was that of Los Gallardos in 2005. The following year they were joined by Carboneras and in 2007 Antas. This year as well as Mojacar, Cuevas del Almanzora are introducing such a register.
